Autism: The International Journal of Research and Practice invites Autism Speaks families, researchers and supporters to hear a new installment in its monthly “Autism Matters Podcast Series.”
In this podcast, Liz Pellicano, director of London’s Centre for Research in Autism and Education, discusses her research on involving the autism community in planning research studies.
In her study, Dr. Pellicano explored community priorities for research with interviews, focus-groups and surveys involved individuals affected by autism, family members, practitioners and researchers. She found a clear disparity between the autism research being funded and the research that the autism community wants to see funded. And she calls for greater involvement of the autism community in setting priorities and determining the best outcome measures for gauging the “success” of new interventions and medicines.
