International dignitaries and stakeholders unite to discuss autism in New York

May 22, 2014

This morning, Autism Speaks convened its second Advocacy Leadership Network (ALN) meeting in New York City.  Moderated by CNBC anchor Sue Herera, the two-day event brings together health officials from around the world to discuss advances in autism research, best practices to foster global advocacy and awareness efforts, and strategies to support the implementation of both the United Nations General Assembly’s and the World Heath Assembly’s autism resolutions. Participants include Autism Speaks Co-founders Suzanne and Bob Wright and representatives from the World Health Organization, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and ALN members and stakeholder organizations from around the world.

The ALN is a vital part of the Autism Speaks Global Autism Public Health initiative (GAPH). This work reflects Autism Speaks’ focus of increasing global awareness, services and research collaboration. In particular, GAPH supports the creation of self-sustaining public health programs and research networks. Learn more about the ALN and GAPH here.
